Project Proposal

For my project, I am thinking about ways to improve the human body by making it bigger. There are two different reasons for this. In one case, if humans appear bigger, they can scare away some types of animals. People hiking in the mountain especially have use for this, because they may run into threatening animals. Mountain lions are especially dangerous. When encountering them, I read that the last thing you want to do is make yourself smaller, because that will make you look like prey. Mountain lions will be less likely to attack if you look large and intimidating. To help against mountain lions, I would design a jacket that expands or inflates somehow. It will look like a normal jacket, and be lightweight for hiking, but there will be a cord to pull to make it expand. This jacket will come in many stylish colors.

My second idea for expanding the body focuses more on personal space. Many people have a "bubble" of personal space that they don't want infringed upon. However, some people have no regard for this bubble, or sometimes it's just not possible in a crowded place. To solve this problem, I thought of a wearable device that will expand and push people away. The structure of this device will be based on that of an umbrella, because those can easily expand and contract. At first glance, it will appear to be a skirt, but when a button is pushed, it will expand out like an umbrella and shove people away. Like umbrellas, it will come in many different colors and patterns. It will also come in several different sizes, depending on the radius of personal space desired.
